Thailand-Myanmar Border at Ranong

Getting to Ranong

Ranong is 568 km south of Bangkok. Bangkok Airways has daily flights from the capital that take  one hour and 20 minutes. Air conditioned buses leave for Ranong everyday from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal.

About Ranong

Ranong , Thailand's rainest province , is 3298 square kilometers in area , 169 km from North to South and 9 km wide at its narrowest part. Most of the province is covered with rain forest mountains. Ranong is divided into four Amphoes and one King Amphoe : Amphoe Muang , Kra-Buri , Kapoe , La-un and King Amphoe Suk Samran. November to April is the best time to visit.

Attractions in Ranong

Hot Spring
Located 2 km east of Ranong , it is famous for local as well as foreigners. The temperature of the water is about 65º C. The deeply shaded forest surrounding the hot spring is very lovely.
Ko Phayam
Located 2 Hrs boat trip from Ranong , it is where you can visit pearl raising farms and many households of Chao Le Tribal people ( sea gypsy ).

Ko Chang
This island and surrounding small islands provide good place for fishing and diving.
Leam Son National Park
With the area of over 315 Sq. km , the park contains beautiful beaches , islands and fascinating coral reef . Bungalows are available in the park and prior reservation is necessary by contacting the National park Division.
Isthmus of Kra
The narrowest part of the Malayan Peninsula is located here at km 545 of Highway No. 4. This is the place lying at the nature border line between Myanmar and Thailand. Kra Buri river add up the beauty of landscape.

Boat Trip to Myanmar

Foreign visitors need to join a group ( a tourist party ) at a boat pier to go Myanmar side. Some resorts , hotels and travel agents could also arrange the trip. They need a valid passport which is copied and a border pass is issued by Myanmar Immigration for US$ 5. Thais are charged Baht 40. However visitors would not receive no entry nor exist stamps from Myanmar and Thai authorities. Visitors can go to either Ko Son where a casino called Andaman club is located or Victoria point in Kaw Thoung , a small Myanmar's Southernmost town.

This small Myanmar island houses a casino called Andaman club where neon-flashing casinos draw tourists' cash. Apart from travelers from Thailand , Singaporeans and Malaysians are regular visitors.
