Mae Sok , a town in Tak province of Thailand, facing Myanmar ( Burma ) on the opposite bank of the Moei river is well known for its shopping opportunities especially for Myanmar goods such as cloth , gem stones and decorative items.
How to get there
Mae Sok is located some 86km to the west of Tak which is 426km to the north of Bangkok. There are air-conditioned buses leaving Bangkok at the northern bus station daily for Mae Sok. The bus trip takes about 7.5 to 8 hours. Many visitors prefer over night trips sleeping in the bus. Mae Sok could be reached by flight also. Thai Airways flies to Mae Sok from Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The Thai-Myanmar border bridge over the Moei river is located about 7km from the Mae Sok town.

About 63km to the east of Myawaddy is a town called Kau-Ka-Reik from where one could go by car to Hpa-An , capital of Karen State , and Mawla-Myine , capital of Mon State.

Lan Sang National Park The park is located about 17km from Tak city. The park contains scenic Lang Sang and Pha Phung waterfalls. Accommodation is available.
Taksin Maharat National Park The park is located some 26km from Tak city. The mountainous areas has several scenic viewpoints, evergreen forest, waterfalls and streams. The park was originally known as Krabak Yai National Park , after the name of Thailand's biggest tree. Accommodation , primarily in the form of bungalows and camp site is available.
UmPhang Located 164km south of Mae Sok town on highway 1090, UmPhang is a scenic high point ( 1200 meters above sea level ) in the province. During rainy season it is difficult to travel on this route.
Thi-Lo-Su Waterfall This spectacular waterfall is located in UmPhang wild life sanctuary and can be visited only from November through May.

Crossing the border into Myanmar
Foreigners are allowed to visit Myawaddy town for a fee of US$ 5 . At the time being only the day-return trips are permitted. Thais are charged Baht 40 for a border pass. Once inside Myawaddy visitors have opportunities to purchase Myanmar products such as Wooden and Rattan ware , Handicrafts , Cloths, Gem and Jewelry . Residents in Myawaddy are mostly Bamars, Karens, Mons Shans, etc. and others living in the town are Thais, Indians , Chineses, etc. Majority of the population work in farming.
